Mexican Fiesta Party

My dojo friends really like to throw parties with themes! This was for a friend's 50th birthday (Marilyn). Obviously a mexican theme was established...but somehow it turned into a costume party - and people were told to dress as a Mexican. UGH. People really got pretty creative. Many of us just wore something that might pass for contemporary mexican attire, or something you might wear on vacation in mexico. Others...went all out.

Sarah was dressed for her Quinceanera (mexican coming out party for 15 year old girls), I went with basic festive party atire, Cecilia was a bit of a chola (gang banger) Ami and Shannon went festive attire, and Katie went all out with the Folklorico garb. Marilyn is up front, as a federal INS agent. And these weren't even the worst of the costumes. Lots of gang bangers, cholo's, mexican farm workers etc...I think our taco guy (actual guy serving tacos - best LA catering idea ever) was a little shocked.

Joe on the left - dressed as Bobby on the right. Bobby has many different looks - Joe decided on Dojo Bobby, and actually went to the trouble of "stealing" some of Bobby's actual clothes, and then shaving his head. It was pretty hilarious. Bobby just came as himself...in a crazy dragon shirt.

Joe then took pictures with everyone, the same way Bobby does - fist always up.

My co-worker Austin, sorta cholo, he likes dojo parties, but refuses to join the dojo.

Joe as Bobby, John as Poncho via (he had the full bullet straps on at some point) and Katie in her VERY full skirt...she says the skirt alone weighed 5 lbs.

When you get kickboxers and martial artists together for a fiesta, they don't just hit the pinata, they take it down and break it with an arm bar.
