This is the view from the top of one of the rock formations we "scrambled" to the top of. It's all granite and looks like HUGE boulders just stacked on top on one another - climbing them is pretty fun.
We read that Joshua Trees were named by the Mormon's when they came into California. They thought they looked like the arms of Joshua welcoming them into promised land. Amy's Mormon, so we had to take the picture.
We hiked into Parker Dam which is in the middle of the park. It was an easy walk and we managed to find some good rock piles to climb, but this amount of water out there in the desert was pretty cool - there were even ducks.
Some big Joshua trees - they're very strange, they look almost furry, but also really prickly.
This is us just above our campsite. We've gotten this campsite twice now, by far the best one!
Amy and I got to the very top of this rock - doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but all those rocks aren't really touching, plus its steep. We felt pretty cool.
This is a picture from the top of the rock (above) looking at our campsite. The little blue tent is Lori's - mine was behind a bush by the rock farthest to the left.
We went on a 3 mile hike today to an "oasis" which just means that there's more groundwater at the surface and more vegetation grows there (and also means shade). We thought it was going to be a leisurely hike - it wasn't! Turns out it was very up and down the whole way with lots of "steps" made from big rocks to help you get up and down the trail. It ended up taking a couple hours and it was about 95 out there today, but we all made it and had a great time.
