So - we left Los Angeles at 9:00 p.m. on a friday - and then spent a lovely 4 hours at the Miami airport from about 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. - there's not much to do in the Miami airport that early in the morning - so we basically did this....
Jessica can sleep anywhere - the rest of us read and tried to stay warm, it was FREEZING in the airport.
When we landed in San Jose, Costa Rica about 11:00 a.m. - we went through customs and met our driver for a 4-5 hour trip to Puerto Viejo where we would spend the next 6 days.
On the way - we passed though a lot of little towns....took this just to show the washington apples. :)
We stopped for lunch at this place - with a strange Bonanza theme...like the American TV show. We had REALLY good steaks here.
We got to our rental house about 5 p.m. - about 22 hours from when we left LA.
This is the garden at our house - very beautiful - and filled with bugs, lizards, birds and bats.
This is the kitchen from the outside patio
This is the outdoor dining room
We walked over to the hotel down the street for dinner the first night - and this little guy was just hangin out walking around...freaked us out when he walked by our table - we were used to him by the end of the week.
The next morning we walked into town to explore. It was just over a kilometer, all along the beach.
Found my boat.
The second day...we did our Jungle tour - best day ever! It started on ATV's...
Then we got to the canopy tour and got all suited up for zip-lining...
WHEEEEEEE - if this were a normal mode of transportation I'd take it every day!
After a couple ziplines - we hiked through the jungle - part of the hike included rappelling down a waterfall - this was MUCH scarier than the zip line - but turns out - it wasn't actually scary.
This is the view from the bottom
Afterwords we felt like we could do anything. Plus harnesses are HOT
We also hiked UP some waterfalls - with a lot of help from our guides. You may notice that Edgar - the head guide is barefoot - I mean who really needs shoes in the jungle?
Before we hiked UP the one you see above, we hung out in the pools it formed at the bottom and had some lunch. It's hot and humid in Costa Rica, but this water was really pretty cold - in comparison anyway so it felt really good! Plus it washed some of the grime off of us.
Then there were more waterfalls to climb up -the guides didn't really need all the ropes and boosts that we needed.
Remember that barefooted guide Edgar? He spotted this viper from a zip line platform and hiked down barefoot - to take this picture...scary!
After this snake spotting - we did about 11 more ziplines, and a tarzan swing - and were sad to be done with the canopy tour...but excited to get back on our ATV's and ride back to town in the rain.
When we got back to the house we were pretty worn out - so we commenced with some relaxing - we did this A LOT!
Laying around and reading, eating, and having a cocktail or two comprised a good amount of our time, which was fine with us because we all work a lot and work out a lot in our normal lives.
We had to take turns in the hammock - it was our favorite.
Most nights we managed to get into town for dinner - if we weren't too exhausted from all the sun during the day...April and I found our new favorite Beer - Imperial...so good!
This is the view from right in front of our house...pretty perfect.
We took this on our last day - it's our Corona picture - but with fresh berry/pineapple daiquiri's
This was our last night in Costa Rica - having dinner in town it was HOT
The last night we thought we needed to take this on our last night...to show how much we loved our mosquito nets!
We were very sad to leave - it's a gorgeous, laid back, relaxing place to vacation - I'd definitely go again, but there's so many other places I need to see first.
